Martin Jol is hoping he can tie up Andy Johnson’s long-term Fulham future, despite the pair failing to agree terms on a new deal.
Cottagers manager Jol wants to offer the 30-year-old an extra 12 months on top of his current deal which runs out next summer.
However, the former England striker, who cost £10.5million when he signed from Everton in 2008, wants two years more.
“I talk to him almost every day," said Jol. "I tell him there isn’t much difference between one and-a-half and two years, but he doesn’t agree
"He wants this year and another two years. That is the only thing we are arguing about.”
Jol is also looking to tie up Zdenek Grygera.
The defender arrived in the summer on a free from Juventus and was give a one-year deal with the option of another season, which the club are looking to exercise.
Jol added: “We’ve had an agreement with him that if he is playing well then we will sit down. It’s risky as he could go to another club.”
The Dutchman also confirmed Fulham were not looking to sell goalkeeper David Stockdale.
Reports suggested Ipswich were keen on making the player's current loan spell at Portman Road into a permanent deal
